The West could disengage from Israel without it costing a dime compared to the horrors brought about by the two world wars. It's a matter of political choice and will, not material feasibility.

But the real problem is that these choices are locked in by capitalist and bourgeois principles deeply rooted in international power relations. This cold, cynical calculation is the indelible mark of a West that ranks human lives according to criteria of race, geography, and class interest. For the West, the death of Palestinians, the ongoing assaults on the Lebanese, and so on carry little weight compared to profits, geopolitical calculations, and the preservation of a imperialist world order rooted in white and capitalist supremacy.

So no, this is not a historical accident. It is a global choice. An implicit coalition. A widespread complicity.

It could stop immediately. And that's why Gaza is a turning point. Because there are no more excuses. Because we see everything. Because we knowW everything. Because there is no more distance, no more ambiguity, no more doubt.
