Anne Frank is dead again

Another young Palestinian girl followed on social media has just been killed by Israel. The second in three days. Among so many other anonymous children. It’s like seeing living Anne Franks, testifying in their own way, live, right before our eyes, and yet we just mark it as “seen.”

We were taught at school to regard Anne Frank as an important figure, a sacred symbol of sacrificed innocence. But this image has been carefully folded into a Western pedagogy that produces a selective, sanitized memory. A memory that, above all, never questions the power structures that make such exterminations possible.
