The Empire’s “Last” Laugh
No American fiction, even the most grotesque, could have scripted what the current Trump administration is.
There’s no scenario where a narcissistic fool, surrounded by clowns with such unabashed toxic masculinity, could actually take control of the country and turn it into such a circus.
A delirious spectacle where stupidity and the absurd are the only rules of the game. Trump marks the end of mainstream political entertainment fiction (24, Designated Survivor, West Wing, and all the rest).
Not a single writer, no matter how cynical or provocative, could have imagined such a tragic farce— a president turning the country into a grim, lowbrow comedy, where unleashed ignorance is mistaken for leadership.
It’s no longer fiction; it’s the absurd in its purest form: reality surpasses fiction in such a grotesque way that it’s no longer even worthy of the term. We can't even afford to say “these US shows are stupid” while relaxing in front of yet another series set in DC or featuring the FBI/CIA. No, the second Trump/Musk/RFKJr administration has ruined all that kind of fiction.
No writer can compete with reality; I’m convinced of it since I saw the President of the world’s superpower post that AI video on Gaza.
Fiction has become too normal, too predictable, in the face of this level of madness.
It's time for the American empire to collapse for good.
