Gender isn’t a matter of preference or personal category, it’s an imposed social structure, a tool of control that ranks bodies, desires, and identities from birth. It organises social life around constraining norms and roles, naturalising domination and making invisible the power relations that sustain it.

Even non-binarity, in its aim to subvert the binary, still recognises gender as a legitimate framework. It claims a position within a system whose limits it critiques, but it doesn’t challenge the system’s validity.

Gender doesn’t exist in a vacuum: it’s intimately tied to heteropatriarchy, racialisation, and social hierarchies.

The preferable future is a world where these frameworks vanish, where identities are no longer assigned or monitored, and where existing outside categories becomes the norm. A future where the power relations imposed by gender are dismantled, and where the freedom to live and desire is radically universal.
